Dr. Julie Ball
IGFA Representative, Virginia Beach
I got the call at about 11:20 last night from CAPT Jim Brincefield from aboard the Jil Carrie. He and his co-crew of CAPT Darren Foster and CAPT Mark Wray were on their way in from a deep drop trip at the Norfolk Canyon off Virginia Beach. He suspected they had a fish that may be a world record. CAPT Steve Wray met them at the dock at Long Bay Pointe Bait and Tackle, the Official local IGFA Weigh Station, close to 1 am and weighed in a 4lb 3oz Blackbelly Rosefish, which beats the old record of 3lbs 11oz. This may very well be the next pending All tackle world record for this species. The angler's name is William Davis of Forestville, MD.
I met the Captain at Long Bay Pointe today to help verify the fish. That is one BIG Rosie!!
Congrats to a great crew and a great captain on another probable world record!
